A Legacy to Build On

What's Been Happening?

Hi all!

It's been two weeks since I updated the manual for Instant Fantasy 3e.  Most of the updates were cosmetic, but needed.  I've since concluded a major chapter in my solo adventures and I think I can honestly say now that Instant Fantasy does exactly what I want it to do for me.

I hope it does for you.

I've played many systems over the past decade or so, too many to list.  I've played everything from systems as rules light as Fate Accelerated to crunchy behemoths like Shadowrun.  DnD (especially 5e) is a huge part of my life and has been since highschool.  We've always been homebrewing content into our games.  Most of it was bad and chaotic, but it was always interesting.  I still have a packet of custom soul reaper prestige classes from the bleach anime formatted for DnD3.5e.

While I've set out to make many TTRPG systems on itch.io, this was the first one I made with my own enjoyment in mind.  I buckled down and put my blade to the grindstone on this one.  I've been pushing myself to do more with my projects and really hone them in on a core experience.

So What Is Instant Fantasy?

Instant Fantasy 3e is a storytelling engine first.  Dangers are present, but minimal.  The system guides your character's story along its path.  It's rules light, bordering on rules medium.  It isn't 5e compatible, but very 5e convertible.  I converted my character quite quickly between systems.  I did it twice, actually; and both ways.

Instant Fantasy is a medium to tell your character's story.  It's that simple.

Where To Go From Here?

I believe now that Instant Fantasy 3e is more or less feature complete.  Sure, there are things I could add to it, such as more spells and magic items, or new ruleset expansions, like a scifi pack or adventure modules, but those can wait for a bit.

I have plans for where to take my current character and things I want to experience.

For now, I'm happy playing around in my own version of fantasy-land.
