AN ENDLESS ABYSS

"What Lies Below" is a dungeon crawl system for solo TTRPG play, but contains  enough bells and whistles to have friends join in.

It plays like a board game, allowing a set of choices behind any situation.

D100 SYSTEM

This system runs on a D100, having rolls with a D10 and Percentile to resolve most challenges.  The lower the roll, the better the result.

NO GAME MASTER

You can play this game solo without a Game Master.  In fact, that is what it is designed for.  In addition to fighting monsters, you can roll on a D100 to generate dungeons, maps, encounters, and much more.

PUSH YOUR LUCK

"What Lies Below" lets you maximize the numbers on your character sheet, manage your character's numerous resources, and push your luck as you brave the Endless Abyss.

Is it truly endless?  When do you call it quits?

The choice is yours.

BETA DOCUMENT

This rulebook is vast and complex, even at 11k words.  It is likely that "What Lies Below" will remain in beta perpetually.  This copy will always be free to download and distributed under a Creative Commons license.

COMPANION APP

We encourage you to use whatever tools you'd like to immerse yourself.  That said, this rulebook comes with an official companion app, known as Dungeon Delver Deluxe.

Sorry for bothering you again, but I encountered the travelling merchant in a dungeon and it says to roll a D100 see what his stock is.  Is it that number across ALL the loot tables?  Also, is his price the default amount?

Hey there and sorry for the late reply.  I want to express my thanks for playing this game.  Wandering merchants have a wealth modifier of 0 and function as shops and armories, meaning you can buy things from the supplies, weapons, armors, and shields tables.  I updated the document.  Shops and armories should have new notes on page 27 and you can find a better description of the wandering merchant on page 37.

Thank you so much for making the game and answering my questions!  This is actually the very first solo TTRPG I'm playing and it's helping me ease into it with it's fairly easy to understand tables and rules.

Hello, I'm new to TTRPG's and kind of confused on the Resistance Rolls.  How much damage should the player or monster do if they meet or are below the Target Number?

Oh gosh, I missed that note in the core rules.  You take normal damage when you roll at or above the TN.  If you roll below, you take no damage.  Don't worry, the rulebook has been amended.  The new notes for damage resistances and affliction resistances are on pages 31 and 32 respectively.

Gotcha, thank you for the clarification on that.  Enjoying my time delving so far!
